Sony has published a free version of its music creation software under the name of ACID Xpress, a multitrack sound editor specialized in loops, which allows you to record, edit, and mix music. The limitations that ACID Xpress presents in comparison with ACID Music Studio are the following: the number of available tracks has been reduced to 10, you can only record one track at a time, and the quality of the final MP3 and WMA is 128 Kbps and 512 Kbps for WMV. If you don't really know where to start, we recommend you take a look at the different tutorials that ACID Xpress comes with and you download this:, which includes 10 example projects for familiarizing yourself with how to use it. The music styles are varied. As a stripped-down version of ACID Pro, Sony's professional digital audio workstation, Sony ACID Xpress Free provides a serviceable music editing program, but bars you from using some basic features unless you put up the cash to purchase the Pro version. Pros Good features: Sony ACID Xpress Free has a digital keyboard, guitar, and drum set at your disposal for making tracks. Like its parent app, it uses Acid Loops that automatically change in pitch to match and transition seamlessly into other Acid Loops, to ease the process of creating music. Helpful tutorials: The 'Show Me How' feature provides step-by-step tutorials for operating this program, showing you how to perform functions like adding an event to the timeline or duplicating a track. Cons Cluttered, unappealing interface: The unflattering interface consists of an outdated spread of grey toolbars and boxy white displays piled on top of each other. It's not only unattractive, but also confusing. Just trying to figure out how to record and play back a few notes on the digital keyboard took more time and effort than it should.
